What the levels mean
Strength levels are percentile bands for lifters at your age and bodyweight. Beginner is stronger than about 5% of lifters, novice about 34%, intermediate is near the middle, advanced is stronger than about 84%, and elite is stronger than about 95%. These are statistical estimates, not coaching prescriptions.
Frequently asked questions
- What do beginner, novice, intermediate, advanced, and elite mean?
- They are percentile bands for lifters at your age and bodyweight. Beginner is stronger than about 5% of lifters, intermediate is around the median, advanced is stronger than about 84%, and elite is stronger than about 95%.
- How are Lyfta strength standards calculated?
- Lyfta uses statistical strength models built from lifter data. Your one-rep max is compared with the expected distribution for that exercise at the age, bodyweight, and gender you enter.
- Which exercises have strength standards?
- The calculator covers 100+ lifts, including bench press, squat, deadlift, overhead press, rows, curls, and common machine movements. Start from a popular lift or search the full list.
- Should I enter kilograms or pounds?
- Either works. Switch the unit toggle and the calculator converts your one-rep max and bodyweight, then shows standards in the same unit.
